With a squad rebuild underway, the Hammers are seriously considering a free transfer move for experienced central defender Adam Webster to bolster their backline ahead of a demanding Championship promotion push under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The 31-year-old centre-back is set to become a free agent at the end of June 2026, ending his seven-year spell with Brighton & Hove Albion.
During his time on the South Coast, Webster was a mainstay of a progressive Brighton side, making 158 appearances and forging a formidable partnership with Lewis Dunk that helped the Seagulls secure historic European qualification.
West Ham’s interest in Webster aligns with their current market realities. The club is bracing for significant defensive departures, with both Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos widely expected to seek moves away following relegation.
This looming exodus leaves the Hammers short on senior centre-back options. Webster represents an ideal, low-cost reinforcement. He brings proven Premier League pedigree, composure on the ball, strong aerial ability and is a ‘great leader’.

Despite the clear upside, any potential deal carries an element of risk. Webster failed to make a single appearance during the 2025–26 season after suffering a serious knee ligament injury in pre-season last summer.
