West Ham sack Graham Potter after eight months in charge

West Ham United have parted ways with Graham Potter after just 25 games in charge, ending his disappointing eight-month spell in East London.

The former Chelsea manager managed only six wins during his time at the club, and last weekend’s 2-1 London derby defeat against Crystal Palace proved to be the final straw.

That result left West Ham rooted in 19th place with just three points from their opening five Premier League matches.

Their only win so far this season came in a 3-1 success against Nottingham Forest at City Ground.

West Ham fans had already grown frustrated with Potter’s results, and they’ve made their stance known over the past few games by chanting for his dismissal.

The Hammers board were initially thought to be waiting until the international break before making a decision on Potter’s future.

However, they’ve decided to act quickly to salvage the rest of the season.

“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations,” West Ham’s statement read.

“The Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”

West Ham also confirmed that Potter’s coaching staff, including Bruno Saltor, Billy Reid, Narcis Pelach, Casper Ankergren, and Linus Kandolin, have also left with immediate effect.

West Ham already have replacements lined up

Potter was never the right man for the job, and the writing was on the wall in the first few weeks of his tenure, but West Ham failed to read the memo.

Since parting ways with David Moyes in search of a more dynamic, free-flowing brand of football, things have gone downhill for the East Londoners.

Julen Lopetegui’s spell was a disappointment, and somehow Potter has managed to drag the club to new lows. It’ll be interesting to see which way the club goes from here.

Former Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo and ex-Hammers boss Slaven Bilic are among those who have held talks with the club.

The Hammers will be hoping to make an announcement in the coming weeks.
