West Ham interested in Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen

West Ham United are interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen this winter transfer window, according to the BBC.

The Hammers could use reinforcement in goal, where Alphonse Areola continues to underwhelm.

West Ham signed Mads Hermansen last summer to plug the gap between the sticks, but he has struggled to make an impact in East London.

Consequently, West Ham are eyeing a move for Jorgensen, who is eager for game time after finding himself behind Robert Sanchez in the pecking order.

The Dane has been the second-choice Chelsea shot-stopper since arriving in the summer of 2024 and could be willing to capitalise on the chance to establish himself elsewhere.

However, the Hammers are not alone in the race for the 23-year-old’s signature, with Besiktas also interested in snapping him up.

But a move for Jorgensen would leave West Ham right back where they started. While his profile may look appealing on paper, the reality is far less convincing.

He is hesitant when dealing with crosses, often flopping at them rather than clearing them effectively.

Even when he does come to claim, there is a worrying tendency to spill the ball under pressure, inviting second chances for opponents. His distribution is another red flag.

Jorgensen’s kicking lacks both accuracy and intent, regularly handing possession straight back and putting an already fragile defence under unnecessary stress.

For a side locked in a relegation scrap, those flaws are too costly. West Ham cannot afford another goalkeeper who raises as many questions as answers.

Instead, they would be far better served turning their attention to Crystal Palace’s Walter Benitez.

The experienced Argentine remains a reliable presence, confident in the air with agility to boot.

Crucially, Benitez has the calm authority and know-how to steady the ship and give the Hammers a genuine chance of dragging themselves clear of danger.
