West Ham United are in talks with Fiorentina over a late transfer for midfielder Edimilson Fernandes, according to The Daily Mail.

The Hammers have bolstered their midfield options with the acquisition of Jack Wilshere and despite the sale of Cheikhou Kouyate to Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen how much football the Swiss youngster will get this season.

Although Fernandes has been used by West Ham in a number of different positions since his switch from FC Sion, the versatile star has most commonly been a fringe player.

The latest report suggests that Fiorentina are keen on Fernandes and the potential for Carlos Sanchez to go the other way is there.

West Ham have been bullish in the transfer window over recent months and it is clear to see that Manuel Pellegrini has dictated the changes in his inherited squad.

With Fernandes seemingly set to be someone that is only called upon when others are unavailable, the potential sale of the Swiss midfielder to Fiorentina certainly makes sense.

The window closes in just over 24 hours, with West Ham fans hoping a striker can be signed, with scope for a handful of players to leave the club, either permanently or on loan.
