Arthur Masuaku was just one of a number of star performers as West Ham United defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the Premier League on Saturday.

The winger turned in an energetic, skilful display against the reigning champions to help secure David Moyes his first win as Hammers boss at the fifth time of asking.

Although the Irons remain in the relegation zone, they now sit on 13 points, behind 17th-placed West Bromwich Albion on goal difference alone after the Baggies lost to Swansea City later in the afternoon.

After giving a good account of themselves in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City last weekend, Moyes’ side secured that elusive victory with a dogged showing against an under-par Chelsea.

Marko Arnautovic, often criticised by his own supporters this season, bagged the only goal of the game after just six minutes, finishing well into the corner with his left foot following a clever one-two with Manuel Lanzini on the edge of the 18-yard box.

Whilst West Ham threatened sporadically after going ahead, Antonio Conte’s outfit largely dominated possession and territory for the rest of the match but struggled to seriously test Adrian between the sticks.

The Spaniard, keeping England stopper Joe Hart out of the starting XI, made two decent saves in the first half and comfortably dealt with a number of balls into the box.

Chelsea’s best chance came late on as Alvaro Morata miscued an effort wide when clean through on goal.

However, it was a deserved three points for the Hammers, who ran themselves into the ground to keep their illustrious rivals at bay and give fans renewed hope in their battle against the drop.

The London Stadium saluted their efforts at the full-time whistle, whilst on Twitter a number of supporters took the time to praise Masuaku’s showing, some even going as far as to compare him with Brazil icon Roberto Carlos.
