West Ham United fans have been venting their frustrations on Twitter after The Telegraph reported that manager David Moyes is likely to leave the club at the end of the season.
The Scot has only been in charge since November after taking over from Slaven Bilic and has overseen a general improvement in performances.
However, the article claims that Moyes’ stay in East London will not be extended beyond his current contract’s expiry in the summer, regardless of whether or not the Hammers avoid relegation.
The team have suffered a dip in results over recent weeks having been knocked out of the FA Cup by League One Wigan Athletic, whilst their Premier League form reads as no wins from their last three fixtures.
A damaging 3-1 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend saw the Irons slip back towards the drop zone, with only seven points now separating the sides from ninth to 19th in the table.
Injuries have no doubt played their part in disrupting momentum; key men such as Marko Arnatuovic and Manuel Lanzini have missed recent matches and there are still concerns about depth through the spine of the squad.
And although Moyes repeatedly stated his intent to bring in players over the January transfer window, only Preston North End’s Jordan Hugill and promising Solihull Moors striker Oladapo Afolayan arrived on permanent deals.
Inter Milan playmaker Joao Mario was added on loan but is not expected to remain at the club beyond the current agreement.
Moyes has taken little blame for the club’s struggles in the eyes of the fans and this was reflected in the responses on Twitter, with most coming out in support of the former Everton boss.
Many supporters directed their anger at the board and questioned why this news has been leaked with West Ham embroiled in a relegation dogfight.
The best of the reaction can be found below:
I would of been happy for him to stay but am more concerned with why this has become piblic & will the players stop playing for the manager now his cards are marked. Our club is so unprofessional. I’m not sure Moyes could of done more with he had to work with. #circus

So I hear Moyes wants to leave at the end of the season , hardly surprised would you want to work for those crocks ?

Just cause Moyes is quiet about the future, doesn't mean he's going to leave West Ham. Newspaper articles really do spit out a load of garbage like seriously. 🙄🙄 #WHU

Good, I won't be able to stomach him for more than 6 months. We should look at Quique Setien from Real Betis, a next level manager who plays Football on the floor, proper Football https://t.co/I1x0QnUgkK

Hopefully he does stay when he keeps us up 🤞

Cool, say that now while we're still in a relegation battle and he's fighting to keep us up

With Moyes reported to be gone at the end of the season regardless of the finish, the transfer window is still a disaster. The club clearly lured the manager here with financial support, backed out, and now will move passed him. Hope Moyes takes up the Scotland job. #WHUFC #Moyes

If Moyes proves himself as West Ham Manager I want him to stay but he is not essential to the success of West Ham United.
The success lies with all four parties working together,

I didn't want Moyes. He has since won me over and I don't mind admitting I was wrong. I am however becoming more and more disillusioned by the club that I love and am embarrassed by what is going on behind the scenes. #COYI https://t.co/rIZW3UUhcc
