Patrice Evra received a mixed reception from West Ham United fans following his debut for the club in the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool over the weekend.

The former Manchester United man needed stitches after the Premier League encounter and posted a gruesome picture to his Twitter page to show supporters his injury.

During the 90 minutes, Evra was powerless to stop the Reds’ impressive forward trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane from dominating the afternoon’s proceedings.

All three players found the back of the net, as well as midfielder Emre Can, whilst the Hammers’ consolation came at 3-0 down with a composed finish from Michail Antonio.

Both sides struck the woodwork early in the match, with Salah guiding an effort onto the post in the opening minutes and Marko Arnautovic being denied by the bar after a clever lob over goalkeeper Loris Karius.

It was the hosts who finally broke the deadlock, though, with Can nodding in from a corner just before the half-hour mark.

The score remained 1-0 until shortly after half-time, when a whirlwind 10-minute spell saw Salah and Firmino net for Liverpool and Antonio reply for the Irons.

Any hopes of getting back into the game were dashed, however, when a swift move resulted in Mane guiding home from close range after a pinpoint cross from the impressive Andrew Robertson.

It means that West Ham remain in a relegation dogfight, sitting just three points above the drop zone with 10 matches left to play.

For his part, Evra endured a difficult afternoon against a team with which he has a complicated history.

The Anfield crowd made their feelings towards the former Manchester United man known throughout and there were incidents of some unsavoury chanting which referenced the racial abuse row with ex-Red Luis Suarez in 2011.

Performance-wise, the veteran split opinion, with some praising his display whilst others felt he was below par.
