West Ham United fans’ favourite James Collins is wanted by new Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, according to the Scottish Sun.
Ginge has left the Hammers after spending the majority of his career at the London club but his contract expired this summer.
With West Ham looking to revamp the playing squad after Manuel Pellegrini’s appointment and a disappointing 2017-18, with Collins seemingly surplus to requirements.
The Hammers conceded way too many Premier League goals last season, with the side’s defence a real issue for both Slaven Bilic and David Moyes.
However, Collins always gave his best for West Ham and was committed to the Irons cause, with plenty of fans believing the veteran deserved another year to prove himself under Pellegrini.
With Rangers operating with limited financial means and in need of recruits, it would not be a surprise to see Collins become a cult figure at Ibrox if Gerrard can conclude a deal to bring him north of the border.
West Ham need new central defenders for the side’s rearguard to be more resilient and the Welshman’s influence both on and off the pitch will be missed next season.
