West Ham United defender Issa Diop has accurately described his club’s performances this season saying “Inconsistent. Big games.” during an interview published on the club’s official website.

The Hammers  had a season filled with highs and lows. After starting the season slowly under Manuel Pellegrini, they managed to find some positive results but never managed to find a high level of consistency. They finished tenth which would be frustrating to Pellegrini considering that they were aiming for a strong finish on the top half of the standings prior to the season.

Diop arrived at the club last summer in a £22 million deal from Toulouse. Along with goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, the Frenchman was arguably one of the club’s best players this season as he went on to make 32 Premier League appearances, scoring one goal.

The East Londoners will be aiming for a strong finish next season and to potentially finish in the top six. They will however need to bolster their side this summer as their are a lot of flaws within.

Considering the way in which they started the season, seventh position was not exactly a poor finish for the Hammers. The team should however perform much better next season and there is no doubt that Diop should be a key part of their plans ahead of next season.

The Frenchman has shown what he is capable of. Pellegrini will need to prioritize bringing in new talented strikers this summer. None of the strikers were able to find a good level of consistency this season.
