West Ham could ramp up interest in David Hancko

West Ham United have started sifting through targets as they head into a pivotal summer transfer window.

The Hammers must bounce back from an awful 2024/25 season that will see them finish closer to the relegation zone than they would have liked.

West Ham need to upgrade several positions on the roster, and manager Graham Potter is particularly keen on revamping the defence.

According to ExWHUEmployee (via The West Ham Way), the Irons have identified Feyenoord defender David Hancko as the man to bolster the defence.

Per the report, West Ham will ramp up efforts to sign the Feyenoord centre-back at the end of the season, but he wants European football, which could prove a problem.

Potter is unhappy with his options despite the club shelling out big money to sign Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo last summer. They have been underwhelming.

Meanwhile, Konstantinos Mavropanos constantly looks like a fish out of water, and the club has decided to add a seasoned operator to the mix.

Hancko has won three titles as part of the Rotterdam club. He will be a massive addition to the West Ham ranks.

The 27-year-old has won 61% of his aerial and 62% of his ground duels while helping Feyenoord keep nine clean sheets in 29 league appearances this season.

The 50-cap Slovakian centre-back can also deputise as a left-back.

Even though the report does not mention it, Feyenoord have shown interest in West Ham star Luis Guilherme, and maybe both clubs can work out a deal that suits all parties.

Hancko could be the statement signing West Ham desperately need

If West Ham are serious about turning the page after a frustrating season, they must pull out all the stops to land Hancko.

His commanding performances at the 2024 European Championship, where he stood out in a disciplined Slovakia side, only reinforced the notion that he is ready for the Premier League.

Chelsea and Liverpool are sniffing around him. He is a player on the verge of a big move, and West Ham must make the London Stadium his next stomping ground.

If West Ham wait too long or hesitate over the fee, they’ll miss out on a defensive game-changer who fits Potter’s tactical demands and brings leadership.

Hancko offers consistency, versatility, and a winning mentality. He is in his prime and ready to anchor a defensive rebuild in East London.
