West Ham United have confirmed on their official website that striker Jordan Hugill has joined Championship side Middlesbrough on a season-long loan deal.

The industrious centre forward moved to the Hammers from Preston North End on deadline day in January but there was always a feeling that the attacker was not the club’s first choice signing in the position.

This rang true as Hugill struggled for game time at West Ham, with the attacker turning into something of a forgotten man as Javier Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic and Andy Carroll were selected ahead of him.

With talk that the Hammers could still wrap-up a deal to bring another centre forward to the London Stadium before the transfer window closes this week, the writing was clearly on the wall for the former Preston man.

The chance to play regular first-team football at Middlesbrough will be appreciated by the player, with Hugely surely keen to prove his worth in the Championship by scoring plenty of goals.

West Ham allowing him to leave on loan could well be a positive hint that a replacement will be arriving before the window closes at 5pm on Thursday evening.
