West Ham United’s hopes of signing Javier Pastore from Paris Saint-Germain are set to end as the club cannot afford the Argentine’s wage demands, according to Football London.
The Hammers have been heavily linked with the skilful attacking midfielder, who has become surplus to requirements in the French capital.
While interest in Pastore has got West Ham fans rightly excited, it looks as though the South American will not be moving to the London Stadium.
The Irons are in need of attacking midfield reinforcements following the terrible news that Manuel Lanzini has ruptured his cruciate ligaments on international duty ahead of the World Cup.
However, compatriot Pastore is accustomed to top-level wages with PSG and although the club are expected to push the financial boundaries this summer, the latest report suggests the South American’s capture is out of reach.
It remains to be seen if other attacking midfield targets will emerge that are more attainable.
West Ham are also expected to try to sign a new goalkeeper and a couple of defenders as a matter of urgency.
