West Ham United have registered concrete interest in signing Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu as part of an overhaul of their attacking department.
The Hammers are actively drawing up potential summer targets to inject dynamism and elite pace into a squad preparing for major departures at the London Stadium ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Fatawu’s stock has risen exponentially after a highly productive individual campaign despite his side’s relegation to League One.
The ‘special’ 22-year-old was the undisputed bright spot for the Foxes, racking up nine goals and seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
His performances also earned him a place in Carlos Queiroz’s Ghana squad for the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he has come off the bench against England and Panama.
Securing the highly gifted winger will require a huge effort from the Hammers’ recruitment department, with Fatawu under contract until June 2029.
A clause in his contract requires his former club, Sporting CP, to receive a 15% cut of any transfer fee exceeding €17m.
This sell-on structure means the King Power Stadium hierarchy will demand a premium fee, likely in the range of £35m to £40m.
Furthermore, West Ham face additional competition across the English divisions for Fatawu, as several clubs are interested in a move.
Fatawu is currently assessing his options before deciding on his next move, and West Ham’s lack of top-flight football could work against them.
