Former West Ham United fan-favourite has suggest that West Ham’s acquisition of Albian Ajeti went under the radar and that the new man can make an impact in England.
The 22-year-old made his senior debut for the Hammers during their during their 2-0 win over Newport County in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
The goals for the East Londoners came via Pablo Fornals and Jack Wilshere, who scored his first ever professional goal for the club.
Ajeti is one of the players who arrived at West Ham during the close season from Basel for £8 million.
The Hammers spent more than £70 million during the summer transfer window as they brought in Ajeti, Goncalo Cardoso, Fornals and Sebastien Haller.
It was known from the time that they were signed that Fornals and Haller were set to play a big role for the club this season and hence their West Ham signings did somewhat overshadow those of Cardoso and Haller as far as garnering media attention goes.
Ajeti is set to provide competition to the likes of Javier Hernandez and Haller this season and will get his fair share of opportunities though many will be from the Hammers bench.
Given that Hernandez suffers from injury issues, the West Ham striker may well even be required to start games from time to time in cups or if Haller is unavailable for selection and Hernandez is injured.
Gabbidon feels Ajeti can make a positive impact for the Irons.
“Hopefully goals, I think the transfer has gone under the radar with Sebastien Haller coming in for big money, but he certainly looks a different type of striker to Haller,” Gabbidon told Sky Sports, as reported by Hammers News.
“He’s more Javier Hernandez-like, a box type of player, likes to get in behind, can shoot with either foot, very composed when he gets in those positions, so I think he’ll be a very good addition.”
Ajeti arrived at the London Stadium with an impressive record after having scored 29 League goals from 58 appearances for Basel.
He is certainly not a finished product but was a good signing by West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini and could be a future star.
