Three reasons why West Ham can secure vital win at Brentford

West Ham United travel to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon knowing that only three points will suffice in their fight for survival. With the Hammers just two points above the relegation zone, here are three reasons why Nuno Espirito Santo’s side can get the job done.

The first is momentum, and West Ham have it in abundance. Since early February, the Hammers have picked up 16 points from 10 matches. April was particularly impressive, as Nuno’s side went unbeaten, picking up seven points from three games.

That run included a 4-0 thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers, a goalless draw at Crystal Palace, and a dramatic 2-1 victory over Everton, sealed by Callum Wilson in the 92nd minute. A team playing with that belief and resilience is difficult to stop, regardless of league position.

The second reason is Brentford’s alarming dip in form. Keith Andrews’ side were genuine European contenders just weeks ago, but have since suffered a spectacular collapse. Five consecutive league draws, followed by a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, mark the Bees’ longest winless run in the Premier League for two years.

Brentford are also winless in their last six matches at the Gtech Community Stadium, drawing the last three in front of their own fans.

The third reason is the personnel advantage West Ham enjoy heading into this fixture. Brentford are without Fabio Carvalho, Jordan Henderson, Vitaly Janelt and Rico Henry through injury.

In contrast, West Ham have only Lukasz Fabianski unavailable, while captain Jarrod Bowen arrives in superb form, having registered four assists in his last three games and earning a Premier League Player of the Month nomination.

The odds may favour the hosts, but form, motivation and squad fitness all point towards a West Ham result that could prove decisive in their survival fight.
