West Ham United are close to signing highly rated Basel striker Albian Ajeti for a fee of £8 million, according to Sky Sports.

The Hammers have already landed an impressive attacking capture this summer, with French forward Sebastien Haller joining the London club from Eintracht Frankfurt for a club-record fee.

However, with the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll all leaving West Ham permanently, and Jordan Hugill on loan, the Irons are short on striker options.

Haller will lead the line for the Hammers, while Javier Hernandez is available if called upon by manager Manuel Pellegrini.

That said, having another option through the middle will complement the existing options in the West Ham squad and Ajeti is an exciting prospect.

The 22-year-old scored 14 goals in 32 games for Basel last season and looks to be a player with real potential.

The reported West Ham arrival has already scored in the one game he has played for the Swiss outfit this season also.

With the finer details of the deal to land Ajeti being ironed out, the report states the striker will earn about £50,000 per week at the London club.
