Predicted West Ham XI vs Wrexham: Hammers seeking to move top of the Championship

West Ham United kick off round seven of the 2026-27 Championship season as they welcome Wrexham to the London Stadium on Friday night.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side appear to have put their slow start behind them and are now unbeaten in five matches, winning four, including a thrilling comeback 3-2 victory over Bolton Wanderers last time out.

With Valentin Castellanos still sidelined, Joel Piroe is set to return to the starting XI in place of Pablo Felipe, who is yet to score in 21 appearances for the Hammers.

Mohamadou Kante featured alongside Felipe in attack last time out and should keep his place up front.

Edvin Austbo struggled on his first West Ham start against Bolton, opening the door for Manor Solomon to return to the side, while Jarrod Bowen will look to add to his tally after a midweek brace.

Arne Engels and Divine Mukasa have established themselves as Nuno’s preferred midfield pairing, meaning Lewis Orford is likely to remain on the bench.

In defence, 25-year-old Morato is pushing for a first start since reuniting with Nuno after a recent cameo and offers an option at both centre-back and left-back.

Kyle Walker-Peters made way for Joel Veltman after a difficult display at Bolton and is expected to drop to the bench.

Mads Hermansen has conceded in six of his seven appearances this season, but his place in goal remains secure, with Finlay Herrick’s only outing coming in the EFL Cup.

Predicted West Ham United XI (4-4-2): Hermansen; Veltman, Mavropanos, Morato, Scarles; Bowen, Mukasa, Engels, Solomon; Kante, Piroe
