West Ham’s London rivals sign former Hammer – should Pellegrini have moved for him?

Fulham have confirmed on their official website that they have signed former West Ham United man Havard Nordveit on loan for the rest of the season from Hoffenheim.

The Norwegian battler spent a campaign with the Irons before being offloaded and it will be strange to see the Scandinavian back in the Premier League at Craven Cottage.

While the general consensus will be that West Ham have ambitions of having better players than Nordtveit, could he have done a job for the club for the rest of the season?

The Hammers have lacked bite in the centre of the park this season and with Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere both injured, Manuel Pellegrini has limited options in the boiler room.

As such, West Ham are reliant on young Declan Rice as an unlikely talisman – he currently is the only central midfielder showing the required energy to dominate Premier League matches.

While Nordtveit had some poor moments during his time at the London Stadium and his limitations are there to see, one thing he never lacked in his time at the club was fighting spirit.

West Ham are short of leaders, especially in midfield, and as such the Norwegian could have been a player to put a foot in and get the collective blood pumping for the team.

Given that he has already been at the club and would be familiar with many of the players, it could have been a shrewd piece of business to add strength in depth.
