West Ham to move for Ligue 1 ace if Batshuayi deal falls through

West Ham United are hoping to land Michy Batshuayi on transfer deadline day, but if a deal for the Chelsea forward cannot be completed then moving for Steven Jovetic is an alternative, according to The Guardian.

The Hammers have reportedly had a loan approach for the Belgian accepted by the Blues, but the powerhouse number nine is in demand and could opt for a move elsewhere.

With West Ham keen to add goals to their squad and time running out, Jovetic is also being touted as an option.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini knows the Montenegrin well from their mutual time at Manchester City and the gifted attacker is currently on the fringes of the Monaco set-up.

On first sight, Jovetic represents a gamble for West Ham as the eastern European attacker has a bad injury record and did not set the world alight during his last stint in the Premier League.

That said, the Monaco man is clearly gifted and was prolific in his time in Italy with Fiorentina, where he excelled and was highly sought after.

West Ham need an additional option in the final third – the fans will hope that either Batshuayi, Jovetic or someone else ends up the London Stadium and the club does not miss out entirely.
