West Ham United have finalised an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Evan Ferguson on loan, according to The Guardian.
Details on the finances involved in the deal are yet to be determined, but the club is reportedly due to make an official statement later.
Ferguson has been strongly linked with a move to East London since Graham Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui as Hammers boss.
The talented striker has seen his development stall at Brighton due to a combination of injury woes and fierce competition for places.
Since returning from a lengthy lay-off, the 20-year-old has found playing time hard to come by under Fabian Hurzeler.
He has fallen down the pecking order in Hurzeler’s side, with Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro, and Georginio Rutter ahead of him.
Hurzeler recently claimed he wants to continue working with Ferguson but also admitted that there’s a chance the striker could leave the club this month.
The Republic of Ireland international has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season, but only four of them have come from the starting line-up.
He opened his goalscoring account against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in October last year but has struggled to nail down a spot in the first team.
If West Ham finalise a deal for Ferguson, the Irishman will be the first signing of the Graham Potter era and will be a statement of intent from the club officials.
Potter gave Ferguson his debut during his time at Brighton, and it is believed that a reunion with the Englishman could be what the youngster needs to recapture his goalscoring form.
With Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug out for the foreseeable future, West Ham are in an ideal position to give Ferguson the run of games he needs to thrive.
Once regarded as one of the finest talents in the country, signing Ferguson could represent a coup for West Ham, especially if they can get him permanently in the summer.
A number of top teams in England were also interested in Ferguson but he could now be on his way to London Stadium.
