West Ham United are reportedly ‘weighing up a potential swoop’ for Stade de Reims attacker Adama Bojang (h/t the Mirror). The Hammers want to bolster the frontline, and he is a target.
Per the report, ‘earlier this week, West Ham, who have been tracking the player for some time, held talks over a move.’
The 21-year-old turned heads while on loan in Switzerland with Grasshopper Club Zurich. The Gambian attacker bagged six goals and two assists in 27 appearances.
Bojang is a solid striker who can also play off the left wing.
He had caught the eye of Premier League sides, including Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea in 2023 before choosing Reims.
Bundesliga sides such as RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, and TSG Hoffenheim were also following him before the switch to France.
The Gambia Under-20 international is widely considered one of the standout African prospects of his generation.
Now, with Reims relegated to Ligue 2, his future is once again up in the air.
The club may be forced to entertain offers this summer as they look to generate funds and reshape their squad for the second tier.
They will ask for a price in the region of £10 to £11 million for Bojang.
Bojang can be an understudy to a top centre-forward target – View
Bojang is a talented prospect, and if the club is taking the punt on him to play as an alternative to a lethal striking target, then this move makes sense.
The 2023 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations finalist is clearly a superb talent. He could develop into a fine striker at the London Stadium.
However, the Irons must focus their attention on securing a first-choice centre-forward for manager Graham Potter. West Ham could lose Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug this summer.
The team is crying out for a striker who can deliver 15 goals in the Premier League, and Bojang’s tally of six in the Swiss league does not stack up. Priorities!
