West Ham United are set to go after Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen when the transfer window reopens, according to a report published by The Telegraph.
After an underwhelming season, the Potters will likely bid farewell to many of their high performers this summer.
The 29-year-old Allen has vast experience at the highest level and has been a key player for the Swans since he joined them in 2016. He has so far played 44 times in the Championship this season and scored six goals.
Allen is not the most stunning player around but he is definitely a Premier League quality player. He definitely does have the capabilities of potentially being a success for West Ham at the London Stadium.
The Hammers need to sign players who are not injury prone this summer. Over recent years, they have had a habit of signing injury prone players and this has hindered their consistency.
This season alone, West Ham have had to make do without the services of the likes of Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini and Andy Carroll for large portions of the campaign.
At Allen’s age, he will want to make a return to the Premier League and so a move to the London Stadium could be appealing. If he maintains his best form, he is also certainly capable of becoming a first-team regular for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Watford are however also reportedly interested in signing the Welshman. This could potentially pose a problem to West Ham as the Hornets could potentially be playing in next season’s Europa League.
