West Ham monitoring Werder Bremen left-back Felix Agu

West Ham United must have an excellent summer transfer window to recover from this atrocious 2024/25 campaign.

The Hammers sit in 17th place above the relegation zone and need to reinforce this squad as they bid to challenge for a European slot next term.

West Ham have massive holes to plug in the centre-forward position, midfield, central defence and between the sticks. The Irons could also use reinforcement at left-back, where Emerson Palmieri needs competition.

The former Chelsea defender has endured a palpable decline, and the club needs to bring in a new left-back to push him for the starting berth.

According to Florian Plettenberg, West Ham are monitoring Werder Bremen left-back Felix Agu. He has a release clause ranging between €8-10 million. It is valid until the end of May.

Agu would be a stellar addition to West Ham. The 25-year-old has been a crucial player for Werder as they sit in ninth place on the Bundesliga table, three points away from one of the European slots.

Agu has scored three goals and created three big chances in 17 league appearances for Werder while winning 63% of his ground duels. He is a well-rounded left-back and can be a massive asset for the Hammers.

The Osnabruck-born defender has been developing steadily since joining the club in 2020, and this is his breakout season. It remains to be seen if West Ham will pull the trigger to sign him.

West Ham should be at the front of the queue for Tyrick Mitchell instead – View

Instead of wasting precious funds that can be used elsewhere, West Ham should set their sights on Crystal Palace man Tyrick Mitchell, who becomes a free agent this summer.

Mitchell is a battle-tested, Premier League-ready defender and needs no time to adapt in East London. He has created 10 big chances this season, winning 60% of his ground duels.

Signing Mitchell on a free transfer would be a shrewd move. With Premier League experience under his belt and a solid track record on both sides of the ball, Mitchell could slot straight into the starting XI and offer the consistency Emerson lacks.
