West Ham linked with swoop for German International

West Ham United are in the race to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay, according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato.

The Germany international has caught the eye at the PreZero Arena since arriving in 2016 and has become one of the standout performers in the Bundesliga.

Demierbay, who has scored four goals and provided nine assists in 29 appearances this season, is wanted by both the Hammers and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 25-year-old has also been a target for Arsenal, according to Bild, and the midfielder is believed to have a release clause of £22million inserted into his current contract at Hoffenheim which expires in 2022.

There could be an overhaul of the squad in the summer with four players out of contract and manager Manuel Pelligrini keen to move some of the players on.

Adrian, Pablo Zabaleta, Samir Nasri and Andy Carroll will see their current deals expire at the end of the season while the likes of Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez have been linked with moves away from the Olympic Stadium.

The Hammers boss is keen to add some quality to his side in what has been an inconsistent campaign for the East London outfit this Premier League season.

West Ham have won just one of their last six matches and the draw with Leicester City on Friday night ended a run of three straight defeats.

Their last victory came on March 16 when they came from behind to beat Huddersfield Town.

The Hammers face Champions League semi-finalists and London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their next match in an early kick-off at the Olympic Stadium on April 27.
