West Ham interested in signing Jonathan Rowe

West Ham United are showing interest in Olympique Marseille winger Jonathan Rowe, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old West Ham target enjoyed a solid season in France last term, registering three goals and four assists across 30 appearances in all competitions.

However, Rowe is in the market after a physical altercation with teammate Adrien Rabiot, and the Hammers are looking to capitalise. He will cost around €20 million.

Rowe caught the eye of English suitors the year before as he bagged 12 goals in 32 outings in the Championship with Norwich City.

His versatility will also appeal to West Ham. Even though he is most comfortable on the left, he is equally adept on the right, offering flexibility in attacking roles.

His ability to cut inside and finish strongly has been a hallmark of his game, while his direct style fits naturally into the Premier League’s intensity.

Hammers boss Graham Potter needs more firepower to keep pace with rivals this season, especially after the alarming opening-day Premier League loss to Sunderland.

Lauded as a ‘fantastic player’, Rowe represents an opportunity to add dynamism and depth, while also giving Potter the tactical options he has been lacking.

His age profile also suggests he can improve further in East London and add some youth to this ageing squad.

With the transfer window closing in a fortnight, West Ham cannot afford to hesitate. This is a chance to secure a capable winger at a time when the squad still looks thin.

Crysencio Summerville has struggled with injuries since coming to the London Stadium, and banking on his fitness is a gamble.

Bringing in Rowe would address that weakness, helping the club move on from the Dutchman.

His signing would also free Potter to reintroduce a 4-3-3 system, as the current 3-4-2-1 set-up fails to maximise the roster’s potential.

The deal looks logical from every angle. Now, it is up to West Ham to act.
