West Ham confirm quartet will leave this summer, but who should the Hammers sign to replace them?

West Ham United announced that Aaron Cresswell, Lukasz Fabianski, Vladimir Coufal, and Danny Ings will leave the London Stadium when their contracts expire at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The quartet were part of the West Ham core that won the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League and have made over 800 appearances combined for the East London outfit.

Replacing such seasoned professionals this summer will not be easy, but the Hammers must get it right after an abysmal 2024/25 campaign.

Despite the club keeping transfer plans under wraps, we look at some potential additions that would strengthen the Hammers.

Left-back replacement (Tyrick Mitchell and Diego Moreira)

With Cresswell leaving, West Ham need a left-back, and if Potter sticks to his 3-4-2-1 formation, then the Hammers should bring in a player experienced in the wing-back role.

Crystal Palace star Tyrick Mitchell is available on a free transfer this summer, and the Hammers must be muscling their way to the front of the queue for his signature.

Mitchell has Premier League experience. He is a defensively solid full-back who has improved offensively, bagging four assists (created 10 big chances) in 35 league outings this term.

Another exciting option is Diego Moreira. The 20-year-old scored twice and created 14 big chances in Ligue 1 this term.

The Portuguese winger-turned-wing-back is excelling at Strasbourg in his new position and would be a game-changer for the left flank, adding creativity and flair, elements West Ham lack.

Right-back addition (Ola Aina and Kyle Walker-Peters)

Luckily for West Ham, two battle-tested right-backs are available on a free transfer this summer to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Nottingham Forest man Ola Aina looks set to leave the City Ground when his contract expires.

This opening is the perfect opportunity for the Hammers to pounce and bolster their ranks without spending.

Also, Walker-Peters, a long-term target, might not fancy another season in the Championship with Southampton and will be looking for a new stomping ground.

The West Ham hierarchy should recruit the 28-year-old, although both Walker-Peters and Aina will be wary of having Wan-Bissaka ahead in the pecking order.

Bringing in a new goalkeeper (Mile Svilar)

Roma are currently on a 19-game unbeaten run and have their goalkeeper, Mile Svilar, to thank for that sensational record.

The Serbian put on a masterclass to shut out Fiorentina and in-form striker Moise Kean in his last outing. He would be the perfect Fabianski successor.

Svilar has 15 clean sheets in 35 appearances, the most in Serie A this season, ahead of names like Mike Maignan, Michele Di Gregorio, and Yann Sommer.

Svilar has European experience. The 25-year-old has matured into a competent shot-stopper despite falling short of the initial hype when he broke out at Benfica.

Svilar’s goals prevented stands at a remarkable 6.92, and for comparison’s sake, Alphonse Areola’s number stands at an awful -6.99, making him one of the worst in the Premier League.

The Irons need an upgrade between the sticks, and Svilar is a top solution.

Signing a striker (Emanuel Emegha)

Strasbourg have one of the most interesting squads in Europe this season, and West Ham should be banging on their front office door for striker Emmanuel Emegha.

The Dutchman is not the finished product. However, he is a powerful striker who suits the Premier League.

He netted 14 goals and missed 25 big chances this term, but those ratios should improve over the coming seasons.

Emegha can become a lethal centre-forward in East London. All signs point to a striker poised for an explosion, and West Ham need him in the ranks when that happens.

His ability to stretch defences with clever runs and tireless work rate makes him a handful for centre-backs even when he is not on the scoresheet.

Emegha could be a bold, ideal long-term investment.
