West Ham United have made a bid for Alaves defender Guillermo Maripan, according to the Daily Mail.
The Hammers have submitted a bid of £9.5million for the Chile international but the centre-back has a buy out-clause of £21m.
West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to bolster this squad this summer after an inconsistent Premier League campaign.
The defensive department is an area the Hammers manager is wanting to strengthen with Winston Reid failing to make a single appearance all season due to injury and the indifferent performances of Angelo Ogbonna in recent months.
Fabian Balbuena has failed to impress since his summer move from Corinthians and the West Ham boss has identified Maripan as a perfect centre-back partner for Issa Diop.
The 24-year-old has been catching the eye since arriving at the La Liga side in 2017 and has made 23 appearances this season in all competitions as the Spanish side have aspirations of qualifying for the Europa League.
Maripan has been nursing an ankle injury since March and Alaves have not won any of the matches the defender has not been involved in.
Roma are also interested in the defender, who has 13 caps for Chile, and maybe a more attractive option should they keep on course to qualify for European competition next season, but Pellegrini will be hoping that he can persuade his compatriot that his future belongs at the Olympic Stadium.
West Ham ended a run of four games without a win by inflicting Tottenham Hotspur to their first defeat at the New White Hart Lane stadium as Michail Antonio scored the only goal of the game to give the Hammers the points.
