West Ham agree terms with Nuno Espirito Santo to replace Graham Potter

West Ham United have wasted no time naming a replacement for Graham Potter.

According to The Telegraph, the Hammers have reached an agreement with Nuno Espirito Santo to replace Potter, who was sacked just hours ago.

The speed of the switch would suggest West Ham had already lined up a deal with Nuno before pulling the plug on Potter’s miserable spell in charge.

The Englishman lasted just eight months in East London and left with a dreadful record of six wins from 25 games in charge.

He was brought in to reverse the club’s fortunes after Julen Lopetegui’s ill-fated tenure, but he has managed to leave West Ham in a worse position than his predecessor.

Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace on home soil was West Ham’s fourth defeat in five Premier League games and fifth in six matches across all competitions.

That record has left the Hammers rooted to 19th place in the Premier League table after picking up just three points from a possible 15.

Ironically, his only win of the season came against Nuno’s Nottingham Forest at City Ground.

Appointing Nuno is the right call

Choosing their next manager wisely was a huge test for the West Ham hierarchy, but they’ve gone the right way by bringing in Nuno.

The Portuguese manager had an unbelievable impact at Forest, rescuing the Tricky trees from the jaws of a relegation battle and taking them to the Europa League.

At one point last season, Forest were considered title contenders, although they eventually had to settle for a seventh-placed finish, missing out on a place in the top four by a single point.

Since parting ways with David Moyes, West Ham have been particular about bringing in a manager who plays a dynamic, free-flowing brand of football.

Lopetegui and Potter couldn’t live up to expectations, and the decision to appoint Nuno suggests that the Hammers may no longer be particular about playing style.

They want results, and if Nuno’s time at Forest is any indication, the Portuguese manager is the right call.

Nuno averaged 1.48 points per match at Forest. He is expected to take over immediately and could be in the West Ham dugout for Monday night’s trip to Everton.
