West Ham United boss David Moyes chose to give right-back Jeremy Ngakia his Premier League debut in the 2-0 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday night, and fans were very impressed with his display when they took to social media to comment on it after the contest.
The Hammers went into the clash with the European champions faced with one of the toughest tasks of their season, and with a huge match to come against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, people watched on with intent to see if they would take the game to the runaway top flight leaders, or keep something in reserve for the encounter with the Seagulls.
It looked from an early stage that West Ham were out to be hard to beat, which was probably the right way to tackle the Reds, although it was a plan that never truly looked like working.
The Hammers surrendered 71% of the ball throughout the contest, and although they fashioned some looks at the Liverpool goal in the second half, there was never any indication that the Londoners would get something from the match, on what was a subdued evening for their supporters.
The one bright spot for the West Ham fans came in the form of the young debutant Ngakia, who did little wrong on the evening, and played his position well.
The Hammers youngster got forward when the opportunity arose, and generally kept a strong Liverpool attack pretty quiet down his side, so on an evening where his team struggled, he showed significant promise.
That was not lost on the West Ham fans, many of whom took to Twitter after the game, to express how well they thought he did and to comment on what they liked about him throughout the 90 minutes.
