Some West Ham fans react to ex-Hammer’s deal: ‘Thanks for some great memories’, ‘always be welcomed back’

West Ham United fans have met the news of Andy Carroll joining Newcastle United by wishing the striker well, following the end of his seven-year spell with the club.

News broke on transfer deadline day that the formerly Hammers forward would be making the move back to his boyhood club ahead of the Premier League season.

West Ham had released Carroll at the start of the summer, as they opted to bring in a number of attacking replacements following their decision to not renew his contract.

The 30-year-old’s time with the Hammers has been hampered by injury, as last season he managed just 14 appearances in all competitions.

Carroll scored just one goal in his final West Ham campaign, coming in a 2-0 FA Cup victory over Birmingham City.

The Hammers originally signed the former England international on loan from Liverpool in 2012, before making the signing permanent the following year.

In his time with West Ham, Carroll pulled on the shirt 142 times and racked up 34 goals across both his loan and permanent deal.

While injuries held the striker back, Hammers fans have fond memories of his time with the club and have wished him well on his Newcastle return.

Newcastle fans will be hoping they are gaining an injury free Carroll who can return to the form that fired him into the limelight all those years ago, rather than a repeat of his troubles ever since departing St James’ Park.
