West Ham United are ready to pass up an opportunity to sin Wigan Athletic’s highly rated left-back Antonee Robinson this summer, according to Claret and Hugh.
The Hammers need reinforcements in both full-back positions and on first glance, the 22-year-old former Everton man would be an exciting prospect in an Irons shirt.
However, the credible West Ham blog suggest David Moyes will look at other options at left-back after assessing Robinson – including Brentford’s Rico Henry.
Henry starred as the Bees had an excellent 2019-20 campaign, narrowly missing out on promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.
West Ham have had some joy in buying players from the Football League, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio signed from lower league sides and two of the club’s better performers currently.
Robinson has a poor injury record, which may have put off the Hammers hierarchy, while Henry is available for a fee between £5-10 million, the report added.
West Ham have fan favourite Aaron Cresswell in the left-back role, while Arthur Masuaku can operate in the position but has looked more at home in an advanced role.
The Hammers’ priority may well be at right-back after Pablo Zabaleta’s exit this summer, but a new left-back would also be a welcome addition for the London Stadium fans.
