According to Tuttomercatoweb, West Ham United are interested in signing Ignazio Abate on a free transfer.
Abate is a free agent at the moment, having left Italian giants AC Milan at the end of last season.
Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb has claimed that Getafe, West Ham and Brescia all are interested in the 33-year-old right-back.
The report has also suggested that Spanish club Valencia considered the Italian defender before they signed Alessandro Florenzi on loan from AS Roma in the January transfer window.
Good signing for West Ham United?
West Ham could do with a new right-back, as Ryan Fredericks is injured at the moment.
Abate is past his prime and has not played competitive football since the end of last season, and it is very unlikely that he will hit the ground running at West Ham.
However, a short-term deal on a relatively modest wage may not be a bad idea as a stop-gap measure for the Hammers to fix the right-back problem.
