Report: West Ham targeting Swiss international

West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing VfB Stuttgart midfielder Steven Zuber, according to a report published by Tuttomercatoweb.

The 27-year-old was previously linked with a move to the Hammers in 2017 when Slaven Bilic was managing the club. With the contract of Zuber due to expire during the summer of 2020, the report added that the East Londoners will look to recruit the player for a fee of around £6 million. A fee of this kind would represent a bargain in today’s market.

Zuber will fancy a move at this stage of his career. He is now at the peak of his career and with Stuttgart struggling to churn out positive results in the Bundesliga, he will likely be keen on a new challenge.

The player definitely has the potential to add quality to West Ham’s attacking department. However, Manuel Pellegrini’s side must think carefully about signing this player. They currently have the likes of Robert Snodgass, Grady Diangana, Michail Antonio and Andriy Yarmolenko available as options on the right ring.

The right-wing department is one of the club’s stronger departments. The club should only move for Zuber if one of the right-wingers in the squad end up parting ways with them this summer. If not, they should look at rather channeling funds into purchasing a new quality striker or two as well as a reliable back-up option to first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Second-choice goalkeeper Adrian will leave the club this summer so a reliable option will need to arrive at the London Stadium to provide back-up to Fabianski.
