Report: West Ham striker set to leave the club

West Ham striker Javier Hernandez is set to leave the club this summer, according to a report published by The Daily Star.

The Mexican is rated at around £8 million, added the report. Hernandez arrived at the Hammers during the summer of 2017 from Bayer Leverkusen and a lot was expected from him after he starred in the Bundesliga during the season before. Since arriving at West Ham, he has scored just 15 Premier League goals from 53 appearances.

The Hammers have blown hot and cold this season. They clearly need some reinforcements this summer if they want to transform into a side which can finish solidly on the top half of the standings. The East Londoners will need to bring in new forwards during the summer transfer window. Uncertainty surrounds the futures of Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic and Lucas Perez.

Of the three, Hernandez has shown moments of brilliance but has not managed to find consistency. Arnautovic played well during the first half of the season but has struggled to find the back of the net since the start of the year and Perez has failed to adapt to the Premier League after the Hammers handed him a second chance in the English top-flight following his previous failed spell with Arsenal.

West Ham will be doing a good thing by selling Hernandez at this stage. He has had two seasons to prove himself and failed to make a big impression. At his age, he is unlikely to get much better and will probably continue to decline over the next 2-3 years.
