Report: West Ham player could return to former club

West Ham goalkeeper Adrian is being linked with a return to former club Real Betis, according to a report published by Spanish source Mundo Deportivo.

The 32-year-old did not play a single minute of Premier League football this season and is expected to move on this summer. He is firmly behind Lukasz Fabianski in the club’s pecking order. The Polish international was arguably one of the best keepers in the Premier League this season and has made the first-choice goalkeeping position at the London Stadium his own.

Adrian is not exactly at a stage of his career where he should be playing second fiddle so a move to a club which can give him better assurances over first-team football would make complete sense.

The Spaniard move to West Ham during the summer of 2013 after his contract with Betis came to an end. His time at the London Stadium has been relatively successful as he has gone on to make 125 League appearances for the club.

Adrian was one of the Hammers best players during the impressive 2015/16 season. The club finished in seventh position that season under the stewardship of Slaven Bilic and ended up securing Europa League football.

He struggled for consistency the following season which led to him being demoted in favour of Darren Randolph and Joe Hart though he did manage to win the first-choice position from both for short periods. However, the signing of Fabianski from Swansea last summer was ultimately the final nail in the coffin for him.
