Report: West Ham in late talks to land international midfielder

West Ham United are locked in talks with Serie A side Cagliari over a loan move for midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Hammers are desperate to add midfield quality to their ranks before the transfer window closes, as they bid to put together the list of personnel who can keep them in the Premier League.

West Ham have a shortage of genuine top class midfielders at their disposal, which is restricting the way new boss David Moyes can set up his side, much to his frustration.

Many of those options he does have are either out of form or injured, which is leaving the Hammers struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

It is an area of the pitch that has been identified to be strengthened before the window shuts on Friday night, with Nandez spotted as someone who could suit their needs.

The Uruguay international only joined Cagliari last summer, with the Italians securing him with a five-year deal when he arrived from Boca Juniors.

He has gone on to make 20 appearances in the top flight in Italy, and has caught the eye of the West Ham hierarchy during that time, making him a key target.

A deal with Cagliari for the Hammers to take the experienced midfielder on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy him at the end of it is understood to have been agreed, but further unknown assurances are now said to be holding up any deal.
