West Ham United are giving ‘serious consideration’ to making a move for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, according to Sampdoria News.
The Hammers were linked with the 27-year-old Gambia international earlier in the summer, but talk of a deal for the African enforcer has cooled in recent weeks.
However, the latest report suggests Colley could be open to a move to West Ham as his family previously lived in London.
It is clear the Hammers need defensive reinforcements, with David Moyes’ side letting in too many goals last season and looking susceptible at the back.
The West Ham manager has not found a balance at the back, with a number of players coming in and out of the team and no settled defensive unit.
Colley has been with Sampdoria since 2018, making over 50 Serie A appearances – he has previously played for Djurgardens in Sweden and Genk in Belgium.
West Ham have the likes of Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna as options in the heart of their rearguard, but the London club could certainly use another international-calibre player at centre-half.
