West Ham United are reportedly eyeing a shock move for Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to a report published by The Mirror.
The report added that Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos are fans of the Spanish international.
Real Madrid are set to undergo a major summer squad renovation this summer. The La Liga giants have endured a disastrous season by their standards this term will be selling a number of players as well as bringing in new faces this summer.
West Ham target Ceballos who has so far played 22 times in the Spanish top-flight this season, scoring three goals is one such player who could be on the move.
The Hammers are likely to face competition in the race to sign the 22-year-old if they do make their interest known.
What could work against the East Londoners in a potential deal is the fact that they will not be able to offer the player an opportunity to play European football.
From a neutral perspective, joining West Ham will not be a bad career move for Ceballos, it could actually benefit him. He is a player who needs to be playing regularly and who needs to re-find his confidence. Joining the Hammers will provide him with the opportunity to play regular first-team football in the Premier League.
It could be the perfect tonic that he needs to get his career back on track. If we were to join another elite side from one of Europe’s top five Leagues, it may not be certain that he will get regular first-team action.
