West Ham United are not set to make an offer for highly rated Nottingham Forest full-back Matty Cash imminently and need to sell players before making a bid for the 23-year-old, according to Football Insider.
The Hammers need to strengthen this summer and right-back appears to be a position that could use attention, especially after the summer departures of Pablo Zabaleta and Jeremy Ngakia.
West Ham still have the likes of Ryan Fredericks and Ben Johnson in the position, but David Moyes could certainly use another option at full-back.
Cash is coming off the back of an impressive season in the Championship for Forest and the report suggests that the Hammers and fellow Premier League side Sheffield United are both interested in the defender.
However, it could be the Blades that get the advantage in the battle for his services, with West Ham needing to offload players before they can start to recruit.
The Irons have plenty of quality in their squad but clearing out some of the deadwood this summer would be something that the Hammers fans would support.
Cash could well be a star for West Ham in the Premier League but managing the club’s budget will be important given the circumstances around 2019-20.
Johnson was a real star in the final part of last season and many Hammers supporters will want the young talent to be given more opportunities next term.
However, with a need for strength in depth, landing Cash ahead of Sheffield United would also be something that would be a positive for the London club.
