West Ham United striker Sebastien Haller was wanted by Marseille before the transfer window closed and was keen on a move back to his homeland, but a deal fell through, according to Telefoot.
The Hammers attacker joined the East London club last summer in a big-money move from Eintracht Frankfurt and arrived in the Premier League with a big reputation.
However, Haller has struggled to make an impact at West Ham so far, with some inconsistent performances last season and not many goals for the new attacker.
This season, Hammers boss David Moyes has preferred to field Michail Antonio as his lone striker, with the versatile Englishman having a real positive impact for the team.
This has meant Haller has been reduced to substitute cameos and appearances in the Carabao Cup, which West Ham have subsequently been eliminated from.
The French report suggests Marseille explored the potential of signing the Hammers forward and that the player was interested in a deal to join the Stade Velodrome outfit.
However, with West Ham looking to recoup a large percentage of the fee they shelled out to land Haller, the financials of a potential transfer made a deal impossible.
Haller could yet have a significant role to play in the Hammers’ season and it has been encouraging that the French forward has scored a couple of goals this season.
However, the striker looks short of confidence and interest, with Moyes having a job on his hands to get the best from the former Frankfurt forward.
