West Ham striker Andy Caroll wants a new deal at the club according to a report published by Sky Sports.
The report adds that the former Liverpool and Newcastle United forward is aware that he will need to prove himself if he wants to be rewarded with a new deal at the London Stadium.
The 30-year-old has only made several appearances in the Premier League this season. He scored his first goal of this term during his club’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Birmingham City last Saturday. The England international has been plagued by injuries during recent years and has tended to spend more time off the pitch than on it.
Caroll’s contract with the Hammers is set to expire at the end of the season. The East Londoners will then have an option to renew his contract by a further two-years.
Meanwhile Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has previously indicated that he would like to see Caroll having a future with the club. From a realistic perspective though, it would be best for the club to let go off Caroll. They should rather bring in a younger striker who is less prone to injury.
It appears though that Caroll wants to stay.
As quoted by Sky Sports, he said: “Of course I want to stay. I’m just playing football as it is and not thinking about that.
“Yes, I want to stay and I want a new deal but I can’t really think about that every day. I’ve just got to play my football when I get the chance.
“I’ve got a two-year option at the end of the season so we’ll see what happens. I’ve got to play a few more games like this one and, like the manager says, I’ve got to impress him in the minutes he gives me.”
