West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini has had a very difficult past year. After a promising 2017-18 season, the Argentine was set to be included in his country’s 23-man 2018 World Cup squad and was even in contention to start alongside Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.
However he suffered a serious injury while training ahead of the tournament, which ruled him out for the vast majority of this season as well. Due to his Hammers injury, Lanzini has been restricted to just eight appearances in the Premier League so far.
After making his West Ham comeback, he was dealt with yet another blow after he was forced off during his side’s 2-1 loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday. Lanzini suffered a suspected groin strain, according to popular West Ham source Claret and Hugh.
The report added that the player will be medically assessed on Sunday. It remains to be seen if Lanzini’s injury will be permanent or just a small issue. It will certainly be a major blow for the team if it proves to be a bad one.
The four-times capped Argentinian international is without a doubt one of the most technically gifted players in Manuel Pellegrini’s side. The East Londoners have also had very bad luck in terms of injuries to their star performers over the years.
Andy Carroll has spent more time off the pitch than on it during recent years. The likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere have all sustained serious injuries this term while Samir Nasri also is injury prone.
