Reliable insider confirms West Ham transfer rumour

West Ham United are interested in signing Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen, but he is only one of a number of targets for boss David Moyes, according to the reliable ‘ExWHUemployee’ on Twitter.

It is no secret that the new Hammers boss is looking to strengthen his resources in January, with positions in the centre of the pitch clearly his main priority, and as such the club have been linked with a number of players.

One of those is the former Liverpool ace Allen, who is currently impressing in a struggling Stoke City side in the Championship, but who could easily be lured by a move back to the Premier League, with West Ham seemingly interested in his services.

The Hammers are looking to find some competition for the likes of Declan Rice and Mark Noble in the centre of the park, with regular injuries to Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere often denying them of options in a key area of the pitch.

Allen could be a target for a number of clubs this month, not just West Ham, as his suitors will appreciate the performances he has displayed for the Potters so far this term.

The 29-year-old is currently at his peak and has featured 24 times for Stoke this season, finding the net on three occasions, and bringing an intensity to their play which has been badly needed, and that has caught the eye of the Hammers.

A recent report suggested that West Ham would begin talks with the Potters over a move described to be in the region of £7 million, which in this day and age for someone who brings the energy as well as the ability that Allen does, would be something of a bargain.

According to the reliable Hammers source, the Wales international is just an alternative plan at this stage though, with the club also linked with the likes of Gedson Fernandes among others.
