West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell was forced to miss his side’s 2-1 loss against Manchester United this weekend due to an injury and not technical reasons, according to a report published by Football.London.
The 29-year-old who has been a first-team regular for the Hammers during recent years has so far made 20 Premier League appearances this season, amidst injury issues.
He was part of the West Ham squad which lost 2-0 against Chelsea last week but was replaced by Arthur Masuaku for the game against United on Saturday.
Many West Ham fans would have not been happy to see Masuaku starting against the Red Devils. The DR Congo international has struggled for consistency this season and is prone to making errors after all.
The 25-year-old was however one of the clubs better performers against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. When fully fit, Cresswell is a straight starter for the Hammers and fans of the club will be hoping that his injury is minor and that he can return to the first-team fold ahead of the game against Leicester City next week.
The Hammers are currently on a poor run of form, having lost their last three consecutive League games. The latest result leaves them in 11th position with 42 points after 34 games. While they are probably safe from relegation, this is disappointing. The club will be aiming to achieve nothing less than a strong finish on the top half of the standings this season. They will have to improve sooner rather than later if they want things to change.
