Pellegrini close to agreeing £1.2M deal for teenager as he looks towards youth

West Ham United are considering a move for Derby County’s Luke Thomas, according to a report in The Sun.

The media outlet have claimed that Manuel Pellegrini is keen to add the 19=year-old to his squad as he looks to rebuild it and help guide them to a spot in European football.

The Chilean, who arrived at the London Stadium on Tuesday following the departure of David Moyes, is expected to be busy this summer, and the Rams’ midfielder could be his first signing.

It has been reported that the Hammers have made an offer of around £1.2million for the teenager and are thought to be close to agreeing to a deal.

He may not be a name familiar with a lot of West Ham fans, as he has only managed to play six minutes of senior football for the Championship outfit, however, he has been impressing scouts with his time in the developmental side.

Thomas made 17 appearances for the Under-23’s and scored six times from an attacking midfield position, which could prove vital to the Irons next season.

Pellegrini is expected to be busy this summer in his pursuit for new recruits and is believed to have some financial backing to make sure he can get the players he requires.

The West Ham fans will be hoping the former Premier League winner can help to convince a number of big-name stars to join him at the London Stadium next year, whilst others will be hoping he can bring some quality youth into an ageing squad.
