West Ham United have confirmed that the Football Association (FA) has cleared midfielder Lucas Paqueta of spot-fixing charges following a lengthy investigation.
An independent Regulatory Commission ruled in favour of the Brazilian international, ending speculation that had dogged him since August 2023.
Paqueta was charged in May last year, with the FA alleging he intentionally received yellow cards to influence betting markets during four Premier League matches across two seasons.
In an official club statement, West Ham said: “Lucas Paqueta has been cleared of misconduct charges made against him by the Football Association for alleged breaches of FA rule E5.
“The Club has stood by Lucas since the very start of a long and difficult process.”
Vice-Chair Karren Brady welcomed the outcome: “We are pleased Lucas has been cleared. He has maintained his innocence from the outset, and as a Club we have resolutely supported him.
“Despite incredible pressure, he performed week in and week out, showing professionalism and commitment.”
The 27-year-old star also expressed gratitude: “I have maintained my innocence from day one.
“I’m grateful to God, my wife, West Ham, our fans, and everyone who supported me. I’m eager to play football again with a smile on my face.”
The ruling ends fears of a potential career-threatening sanction, with reports suggesting the FA has now accepted the Commission’s findings.
Paqueta will return to action. His focus is on the season ahead.
Paqueta bagged the equaliser following a comical punch from Everton goalkeeper Mark Travers that allowed the former AC Milan star to stab the ball into the back of the net.
He also assisted Niclas Fullkrug’s winner.
Hopefully, he can return to his previous levels following an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign.
