Opinion: West Ham loan move for Man City man suits everyone

After conceding 63 Premier League goals last season, West Ham United are in dire need of defensive reinforcements this summer.

While the full-back positions are lacking in strength in depth, the Hammers could use an international-calibre centre-half to provide leadership and solidify the back four.

West Ham have been linked to plenty of new defenders – but a loan move for Manchester City’s fringe man John Stones would be a shrewd decision this summer.

The England international is out of favour at the Etihad Stadium and has looked low on confidence when given a chance to play by Pep Guardiola.

Speculation over his future remains, with The Sun stating West Ham are one of the teams interested in signing Stones if the opportunity arises during the current window.

However, a loan move could well be the best choice for all parties.

West Ham could offer Stones regular Premier League football in a side that looks to play enterprising football, which would give the player a chance to regain confidence and match fitness.

This would benefit the centre-half, City and England, while West Ham would also be getting an improved option at the heart of their defence.

While Stones will be in demand this summer, the Hammers should go all out to land him ahead of their Premier League rivals.
