Opinion: Hammers should be first in the queue for Man Utd ace

If reports are to be believed, Manchester United are set to allow Wales international Daniel James out on loan, and if that is the case West Ham United should be at the front of the queue for his services.

It is hard to say that the pacey winger is the missing piece of the jigsaw for the Hammers under David Moyes, but he would offer something the London Stadium outfit currently lack.

West Ham are blessed with some talented players. They haven’t always showcased the best of their credentials this term either due to injuries or a lack of form, but that doesn’t mean they are not capable of sensational things.

The one thing the Hammers do not currently have though is a player who can stretch opposing defences. They have a lot of skilful wide players who have a bag of tricks up their sleeve in the form of Felipe Anderson, Jarryd Bowen and Robert Snodgrass, but that threat in behind is missing at present.

James made an immediate impact at Old Trafford after arriving from Swansea City last summer, but with Manchester United looking to go on a summer spending spree, the 22-year-old could easily see himself fall down the pecking order and would need to go out to get the game time he needs.

West Ham have yet to secure their Premier League status, but should they do that then the Welshman has already shown he can deliver the goods at that level, and would offer Moyes a totally different option in attack to the ones he currently has, led by the likes of Sebastian Haller.

James is an exciting player with pace to burn, the sort of player who the Hammers crowd would be entertained by, so if he is to leave Old Trafford at any point, the Londoners should do everything they can to get him to the London Stadium.
