Noel Whelan states type of player Moyes is targeting at West Ham

Football pundit Noel Whelan has stated that West Ham United will look to sign British players this summer and insinuated that the Hammers boss is fed up of dipping into the foreign market.

The Irons have had mixed success in the transfer market in recent years, with the London side predominantly bringing in new arrivals from overseas.

However, with West Ham at times lacking a collective spirit and the work rate necessary to succeed in the Premier League, the English press have suggested that future transfers could be sourced from closer to home.

Whelan has stated that the Hammers should look to homegrown stars to boost Moyes’ contingent this summer when the transfer window reopens.

“Again, you see him looking for British players, I think he’s had enough of the foreign players coming in with their big names and not producing,” Football Insider quote Whelan as saying when asked about West Ham’s transfer business.

“You see him now assembling a good core of British players that know what the English Premier League and English football is all about.

“West Ham are one of these where David Moyes is looking for a certain type of character now, he’s seen the characters that he’s had, that he’s inherited with some of the foreign players and they’re a bit soft mentally.

“There’s not enough passion there for him that they need at the club.

“I don’t think he’ll be rushing into signing any more foreign players because we’ve seen that he goes for more of the English kind of character that they need at West Ham.”

With the Premier League set to resume in less than two weeks, West Ham fans will hope that their side can hit the ground running.

The Hammers are currently in 16th place in the standings and only have goal difference as a buffer between themselves and the relegation zone.

West Ham will return to action with a tricky clash against Wolves, with three points the perfect tonic for the London club.
