Nightmare for West Ham as Maxi Gomez deal falls through

West Ham United’s reported attempts to sign Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez have ended after the club refused to pay his wage demands, according to TeamTalk.

Sky Sports stated earlier this week that a deal to land the in-form South American was likely after the Hammers were ready to pay his release clause at the Spanish side.

West Ham are looking to bolster their attacking options, with the futures of a number of current Irons forwards hanging in the balance.

Gomez has made a big impact in La Liga over the last 18 months and would certainly have been an exciting potential addition at the London Stadium.

However, the latest report suggests that the Celtic man’s salary requests would not be met by Manuel Pellegrini’s side and as such the deal is dead in the water.

West Ham have been linked with a number of new centre forwards on deadline day but it now remains to be seen whether the London club will miss out on a reinforcement at the 11th hour.

Marko Arnautovic has committed himself to the club for the foreseeable future but the Austrian needs support on the goalscoring front in the final third.
